Jeff Whalen grew up in New York. First in Katonah, and then made a family and planted roots in Yorktown Heights, NY, as a father of two boys. His close friends in high school and college would call him “Al.”
Mr. Jeff Whalen went to John Jay High School, and eventually went on to Boston to earn a pair of undergraduate degrees in Performance and Music Education from Berklee College of Music. Whalen would eventually earn a master’s degree in Performance [Jazz concentration] at SUNY Purchase College in Purchase, New York.

Whalen had taught himself a lot about carpentry and gardening over the years, going so far as to build a raised garden bed:
But Jeff’s big carpentry project was a tree house for his children. It took a while to build because he was determined not to put a single nail into the living structures…so he built around the trees! The challenge came in working around the extensive root systems of the trees in question. Jeff played it all by ear, his specialty in music, but in carpentry it went one step forward and two steps back! While it wasn’t easy, the end product was complete with an indoor table, benches, windows as well as a side pulley delivery bucket system that his boys helped to build.
Jeff loved eating just as much as he loved cooking!
